Career transition Program

Having a network of people that can play different roles in supporting your career change is highly valuable in many ways:

  • Access to opportunities: Connections often know about unadvertised jobs or can make introductions to potential employers.
  • Industry insights: Network contacts can provide insider knowledge about trends, challenges, and requirements in your target field.
  • Advice and mentorship: Experienced professionals can offer guidance on navigating the transition and skills to develop.
  • Support: Career changes can be challenging, and your network can provide emotional support and encouragement.
  • Networking skill development: Networking itself builds communication and relationship-building skills valuable in many careers.
  • Diverse perspectives: A varied network exposes you to different viewpoints and approaches within your new field.

Keep in mind: Think quality not quantity, maintaining relationships with people you value and respect is more likely to connect you with opportunities that will be fit for you.

Now that we understand the value of having a network, it’s time to do some analysis on your network to see who might be able to support you and where you have gaps. Download the worksheet attached to this lesson, to map your network.
